About the Training

The Yacht Captain 2999 GT certificate of competency authorises the holder to command commercial yachts of less than 3000 GT. Holders may serve as captains on commercial and private yachts. Our course covers navigation, meteorology, seamanship, basic maritime safety, maritime law, maritime English and boat engines.

Who can attend the course?

Applicants must be high school graduates or have an equivalent qualification and be medically fit to serve as yacht captains. As a prerequisite, they must hold a Yacht Captain (499 GT) certificate of competency and have served for twenty-four months as captains on commercial yachts of 24 metres or more in length.

The STCW Basic Maritime Safety certificates, Medical Care Training, Radar Observation and Plotting Training, and Radio Operator (ROC) Training required for yacht captains are provided within the duration and facilities of our course.

*Seafarers holding an oceangoing chief mate or master certificate of competency may, upon request, be issued an unlimited yacht captain certificate, exempt from the training and examinations specified in this paragraph, provided their competency is not subject to any code restriction relating to English language proficiency.

How long is the course?

Our course runs every weekday and lasts 16 weeks.
