The Yacht Captain 149 GT certificate of competency authorises the holder to command commercial yachts of less than 150 GT. Holders may serve as captains on commercial and private yachts. Our course covers navigation, meteorology, seamanship, basic maritime safety and boat engines, and includes practical sailing, powered manoeuvring and navigation on board a boat.
Who can attend the course?
Anyone who has reached the age of 18, is a high school graduate and is medically fit to serve as a yacht captain may attend our course. After completing the course, those with no previous sea service must complete a 3-month yacht captain internship as trainees on commercial yachts, passenger boats or excursion vessels longer than 15 metres.
Deck seafarers holding restricted officer of the watch, restricted master, officer of the watch or oceangoing officer of the watch certificates may, upon request, receive a 149 GT yacht captain certificate, exempt from the training and examinations specified in the paragraph, provided their competency is not subject to any code restriction relating to English language proficiency.
The STCW Basic Maritime Safety certificates required for yacht captains are provided within the duration and facilities of our course.
How long is the course?
The training consists of 152 hours of theory and 24 hours of practical training, lasting a total of 176 hours over 22 working days.
