An officer of the watch is responsible to the master for navigational and port watches, supervision and control of loading and unloading operations, and ship safety duties on vessels of less than 3000 GT. With the required periods of sea service, officers of the watch may progress to chief mate and master.

An officer of the watch is responsible to the master for navigational and port watches, supervision and control of loading and unloading operations, and ship safety duties on vessels of less than 3000 GT. With the required periods of sea service, officers of the watch may progress to chief mate and master.

Who can attend the course?

Applicants who have reached the age of 18, are at least high school graduates, are medically fit to obtain a seafarer's medical report and have a clean criminal record may attend Officer of the Watch Training and serve as officers of the watch (third officers) on ships up to 3000 GT.

How long is the course?

Our course consists of 12 months of theoretical training over 4 terms and 12 months of internship.

*Progression to oceangoing officer competency after completing the training: holders of an officer of the watch competency who have served as officers of the watch for at least 36 months on ships of 500 GT or more outside port voyages, complete an approved institution's curriculum (course 7.01) compliant with Section A-II/2 of the Convention, meet the English language score required by the Training Directive and pass the examination prescribed by the Administration become eligible for the oceangoing officer of the watch competency as chief mates...
