Engineer Officer Training

An engineer officer is an engineering seafarer who stands watch in the engine room on ships with propulsion power up to 3000 kW and is responsible to the chief engineer for the operation, maintenance and upkeep of the ship's machinery and technical equipment.

Who can attend the course?

Applicants who have reached the age of 18, are at least high school graduates and are medically fit to obtain a seafarer's medical report may attend Engineer Officer Training and serve as engineering officers of the watch (third engineers) on ships with propulsion power up to 3000 kW. With the required sea service and training, engineer officers may progress to oceangoing chief engineer. The 3-month workshop practice required for engineer officers is provided in our course's approved workshop.

How long is the course?

Our course consists of 14 months of theoretical training and 9 months of sea internship.

Progression to oceangoing engineering officer of the watch competency after completing the training: holders of an engineer officer competency who have served as engineer officers for at least 36 months on ships powered by main propulsion machinery of 750 kW or more, complete an approved institution's curriculum (course 7.02) compliant with Regulation A-III/3 of the Convention, meet the English language score required by the Training Directive and pass the examination prescribed by the Administration become eligible for the oceangoing engineering officer of the watch competency as second engineers.
